Well, there's alot of stuff going on recently this past week; the essays and projects I have, the fee hike, presentations, V. Day, etc.....

I'm now at the beginning of the mid term study "break," and why that word is in quotation marks is this next few days won't really be a break from work after all. I'll be using this time to catch up on some of my readings, completed a few assignments, and study for midterms.

On the fun side, I recently played Megaman X Collection this past few days, and it was like a trip down memory lane. Besides that, the calendar I ordered from Japan is coming within 2 weeks, I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Today I discovered the miricle of double photocopying (or xerox, depends on where you're from)-- an art that has remained elusive to me till this day. Just imagine, fewer papers to print on means saving the trees, and fewer papers also mean saving my money.

Things Change

Well it has been a quiet couple of weeks following the results of the exam and my reservist training. One of my friends is coming over a relationship crisis of sorts and I sincerely hope she doesn't get hurt in the future when she makes the choices that need to be made in the present time.

Time goes on, but sometimes we want to go back to the past--the time of happiness, pleasure and glory--and realise that this is not possible and we have to accept and adapt to the changes of the now.

Things change. It is easier to resist in the beginning than in the end.

Damn, it has been quite a couple of busy weeks for moi. To put it another way, it has been a rollercoaster ride... . On a brighter side, I finally got my Lord Sauron statue and I am now comtemplating whether to get a special display case for the bad ass himself. Well, the final exams are on the horizon, so I better get down to revising. So let me share with you a quote that I have heard in secondary school from a famous german philosopher:

Well if I'm typing this that means my fever is finally gone :) But now I have work to do. Like my Philo paper for instance. I'm gonna focus on this for the rest of the week. Hope I can make it before recess ends. And speaking of recess, NUS can be "neow." Conventional mid-term breaks last from Sat to the next Sun. But here, it only lasts until thurs, so work resmues as usual next fri. :(

On another note, there are recently cases that reported 'racist' bloggers. Let this be a lesson for us all:
1)Think before you speak, or in this case, type.
2)You are responsible for your own words.
3)There will always be people out there who likes to "bao-tuo" people who do wrong. I don't know how such people can derive pleasure from "tattle-tailing." But let's leave that for another story for now... .

Man finds lost wallet after 39 years

James and Myra Lubeck wave from their sailboat Nappie IV in 1966 in Marblehead, Mass. Nearly 40 years after James Lubeck lost his wallet while securing his boat, a fisherman hauled in a netful of fish off Cape Ann and recovered what remained of the long-forgotten wallet.

Back in 1966, James Lubeck bent over to secure his sailboat against a gathering storm and his wallet slipped from his back pocket into Marblehead Harbor. The wallet and the credit cards inside were seemingly gone forever.

Then Lubeck got word recently about a mind-boggling discovery: A fisherman had hauled in the wallet’s sheath of credit cards in a netful of cod, flounder and haddock.

“I can’t find the adjectives,” Lubeck, 74, said in an interview Friday. “I don’t know how many people would have done that.”

Fisherman Antonino Randazzo hauled in the catch in June roughly 25 miles from where Lubeck lost the wallet. The sheath was caked in mud, but the 10 to 12 credit and identification cards were in pristine condition.

“It is incredible,” he said. “Life is full of mysteries.”

Randazzo, 44, said he initially feared the wallet belonged to someone who was lost at sea, but when he looked at the cards, he noticed that the expiration dates were from the late 1960s.

Nervous phone call
The only Lubeck listed in the Marblehead phone book was a Jonathan. Randazzo called and nervously inquired whether James Lubeck was home. He was relieved to learn from James Lubeck’s daughter-in-law that he was alive and living in Connecticut.

Later, when Lubeck got a call from his son about the recovered wallet, he initially had no idea what he was talking about. He eventually recalled the details — and the $300 in expense checks that had been lost with the wallet.

“Thirty-nine years ago, $300 was a lot of money,” he said.

The checks, cash and leather of the wallet are gone, but the value of the find isn’t in what was recovered, but what happened afterward, Lubeck said.

“It’s the idea that somebody reached out,” Lubeck said. “And the puzzlement of that moving so many miles.”

... tomorrow in fact. I will surely miss the slacking I had at home for the past few months; even though I knew nothing good culminates from lazing around... . On the plus side, I've finally caught up with the rest of the world when I began watching the LOST on AXN, and then I should've superseded some people when I finished watching the first season yesterday! Yes, channel 5 maybe the first in Singapore to present LOST, but AXN just finished broadcasting it after series of 5-episodes marathons saturday after saturday!

Ah, well I guess its back to work tomorrow. I've never expected university life to be so interesting.

I know, I know. I haven't been updating for a while. Well, I'm currently enjoying my free time by relaxing at home. It feels so good to have a long holiday.

This morning I spent my time trying to knock some sense into his ITE hater. As any average indiviual can see, his reasoning is just flawed. There's simply too much sterotyping and loaded terms in his arugments. Let me direct you to his posts here:

Taiwan Adventure

I just came back from Taiwan 2 weeks ago. Okay so it's not just recently. I never knew the place was filled with fun activites, night markets, hot springs and pretty girls. Maybe in the future, I'll go back there again.

Last night was a blast. I had a CS ver1.6 session at AMK Raiders with my NS buddies. I must admit it has been a long time since I touched the game, but still i gave it my best shot, and boy was it fun. I was expecting to get raped in the first place but eventually outdid myself by have alot kills (including 2 kills by knife :) ). My kill/death ratio wasn't great though; not like the old days when I was known as the "King of CS"!!!!

Actually I made that last bit up.

Cold and the darkside

Goddamnit. Over the weekend I was down with the cold, and it only went into remission today. Talk about coincidence. On the plus side, I finally caught up with the rest of the world to watch Star Wars Ep3 last friday at GV Plaza. Not bad actually. I feel this is the best of all the prequels; since Ep1 and 2 are almost failures.

There are a few points I took note after the screening, so watch put people. Spoilers ahead:

1. Count Dooku died wayyyy too early. I mean WTF; he was a force to be reckon with in Ep2, and in Ep3 he suffered the indignity to get decapitated while on his knees.......

2. General Grevious isn't glorified much in the movie. If you have seen the Clone Wars series, Grevious was protrayed as a mean fighting, living weapon. But what can you say to the guy who manges to hold off 5 jedis concurrently in one occasion and 3 jedis in another (each occasion have at least 1 prominent jedi master), and still gets defeated (shot to death even) by Obi-Wan?
I respect the fact that Obi Wan is one of the most powerful Jedi of all time, but Grevious should have put up a fiercer fight with "Crazy Ben".

3. Everything falls into place too quickly. If you've noticed, Anakin's downfall is somewhat convenient.

Still the movie's great, and I'll bet that you'll enjoy it even if you haven't seen the rest of the prequels yet.

For those of you planning on seeing the third LOTR movie at the theater her are some survival tips.
1. Stand up halfway through the movie and yell loudly, "Wait... where the hell is Harry Potter?"
2. Block the entrance to the theater while screaming: "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" - After the movie, say "Lucas could have done it better."
3. At some point during the movie, stand up and shout: "I must go! Middle Earth needs me!" and run and try to jump into the screen. After bouncing off, return quietly to your seat.
4. Play a drinking game where you have to take a sip every time someone says: "The Ring."
5. Point and laugh whenever someone dies.

11. When Shelob appears, pinch the guy in front of you on the back of the neck.
12. Dress up as old ladies and reenact "The Battle of Helms Deep" Monty Python style.
13. When Denethor lights the fire, shout "Barbecue!"
14. Ask people around you who they think is the next "Terminator" sent from the Middle Earth of the future to assassinate Frodo Baggins
15. In TTT when the Ents decide to march to war, stand up and shout "RUN FOREST, RUN!"
16. Every time someone kills an Orc, yell: "That's what I'm Tolkien about!" See how long it takes before you get kicked out of the theatre.
17. During a wide shot of a battle, inquire, "Where's Waldo?"
18. Talk loudly about how you heard that there is a single frame of a nude Elf hidden somewhere in the movie.
19. Start an Orc sing-a-long.
20. Come to the premiere dressed as Frankenfurter and wander around looking terribly confused.

Video games causing violence?

A hypothetical situation: don't you just hate it when you play through an area in a game for god knows how many hours; until you unwittingly got killed, and have to start over because there's no save point (for whatever reasons)?!?

Even though this actually happened to me once (just recently), I can emphasize the animosity of hardcore gamers. Perharps this is the reason for violence and seclusion of several gamers I've seen in articles that report about them. No, it is not due to the verisimilitude of FPSes that give rise to violence, and it is NOT detachment from society due to MMORPGs that give rise to seclusion, but it is the lack of save points within a game that give rise to these aberrations!!! Just think about it. Video gamers get so pissed angry when they get killed even after many man hours of toiling through a level, and this give raise to physical violence or %^&%*@ around them. They will unceasingly get on with their game until they manage to kill themselves again, or succeed in reaching the end point.

In a nutshell, here's a note to all you future game developers: PUT SUFFICIENT SAVE POINTS within damgerous areas. Or better yet, include a "save anywhere" feature. Either way, you will save the sanity of many gamers worldwide. I gurantee it.
